Fancy Dress

What would you like to be? A queen, a king, a witch, or maybe a devil with red horns and a wickedly swishing tail! A fancy dress is a way to live a life of fantasy, even if it is for a few hours. With a fancy dress you can live the life of a nun or maybe a superman, a fireman or even a royal guard! And who dare forget the little nymphs dressed as pink Barbie or the Little Mermaid, Cinderella, or perhaps Rupunzel with a golden braid. Haven't we heard that Charlie Chaplin got a ninth place in a fancy dress competition, which was organized to find out the best mimic of Charlie Chaplin?

The options are varied and the choices are aplenty for a fancy dress party. These parties are always huge success, not only with children but also their parents as getting their kids ready for the show is a special time for bonding. Through such a fancy dress party you get to know your neighbors, your community and can meet new friends. Charity functions are always a huge success if it has a fancy dress competition in its agenda.

The idea of fancy dress parties often comes with a theme like royal and historic, sci-fi, or maybe a fairytale character. Fancy dress theme parties, however, should be assumed to be a children's affair for fun and frolic. The idea of children dressing up in their favorite characters gives them a first hand experience about the characters they are to imitate. A wonderful method of learning, I must say. It develops the intimate bond between a child and the character he or she to mimic.

Fancy dress party days should be introduced as a regular routine of everyday learning. History would become more interesting and visually appealing when the little masters seek to learn and know more about the characters they dress up as. A little Napoleon brandishing his sword would inspire the young learners to learn more about the general than a history textbook.

The concept of fancy dress shows can be put more effectively by using them to deliver a special message be it on social awareness regarding environment, global warming, or even social causes. A full-scale drama enacted with appropriate costumes can have a deep impact on fighting terrorism. So, ideas may not be really fancy, at times, behind a fancy dress costume. A fancy dress costume drama can present the environmental threats like global warming, or ozone hole.

Fancy dress ideas, however, is special for entertainment. Adults too participate wholeheartedly in fancy dress parties where themes vary from "pop stars" to the very popular "retro" style. The entire process of assembling the costume, make-up, hairdo, acquiring the accessories can be a real fun. It gives more pleasure than merely attending a party.
